Foreign investors propose $5bn renewable energy project
According to a Twitter post from the office of the minister of power, the investors pitched a proposal to build a 1000 megawatts (MW) hybrid solar power project within 24 months and partner in grid infrastructure development. The renewable energy project is expected to expand the country’s electricity supply industry. Read more
Fidelity Bank to raise N50 billion in bonds in Q4 to refinance existing debts
One of Nigeria’s second-tier commercial banks, Fidelity Bank Plc, has concluded plans to issue up to N50 billion ($131.3 million) in local bonds by the fourth quarter of 2020, in order to refinance existing debts as the yields drop. The disclosure was made by the Chief Operations and Information Officer, Gbolahan Joshua, during an analyst call on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Read more
Lagos approves 33% increase for all state pensioners
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a 33% increase for all state pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (Pay as You Go) with effect from January 1, 2020. He has also approved the payment of a balance of 25% rent allowance for officers on Grade Level 07 and above, whose retirement took place between May 2000 and August 2004. Read more
AstraZeneca suspends COVID-19 vaccine final stage trial over safety concerns
AstraZeneca Plc has suspended a final-stage trial of one of the leading Covid-19 vaccine candidates, after a suspected serious adverse reaction on one of the participants. This was disclosed by a health news website, Stat News, on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, while quoting an AstraZeneca spokesperson. Read more
Shoprite reports sales of $161.4 million from Nigeria
South African retail giant Shoprite reported Rand 2.74 billion or $161.4 million in sales of merchandise (gross revenue) from Nigeria. This was contained in the recently released annual filing of its results. Shoprite reports its earings in South African Rands. Read more
FG debt now N24.52tn, recorded N561.71bn deficit – CBN
The Federal Government’s outstanding as of March 31 stood at the N24.52tn (excluding the states and the Federal Capital Territory Administration), the Central Bank of Nigeria has said. The apex bank also disclosed that the Federal Government recorded a revenue deficit of N561.71bn in May. Read more
I didn’t float Air Peace with Amnesty fund – Onyema
Air Peace has dismissed allegations that a former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Office, Kingsley Kuku, purchased aircraft for the airline. A statement from the airline’s Solicitors, Alegeh & Co, said the allegation was untrue, false and a rehash of untrue stories. Read more
ECOWAS halts single currency launch, adopts gradual approach
The Economic Community of West African States has postponed the planned launch of its single currency, the Eco. The body agreed to maintain a gradual approach for the launching of the currency. ECOWAS explained that a new date for the launch would be announced later. Read more

Tamar Braxton’s Nigerian boyfriend files for domestic violence restraining order against her
Tamara Braxton's boyfriend, David Adefeso has filed a restraining order against her. According to TMZ, Adefeso had on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, requested the order of protection against Braxton. The reason behind his decision is yet to be known. Read more

Temi, the daughter of billionaire businessman mogul, Femi Otedola has made her first acting debut in an emotional movie,’Citation’. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the star-studded movie, which happened to be a teaser of Otedola’s first feature movie, was directed by Kunle Afolayan. Temi played a role in a character as Moremi Oluwa in the movie ‘Citation’ which also featured prominent artistes. Read more
Floyd Mayweather's Boxing Prodigy, Danny Gonzalez, Dead at 22 After Shooting
The world of boxing has lost a rising star. Floyd Mayweather shared the heartbreaking news that his prodigy, Danny Gonzalez, passed away. "R.I.P champ gone but never forgotten," Mayweather captioned his Instagram post on Tuesday, Sept. 8. According to law enforcement, the athlete was shot and killed on Labor Day, Sept. 7, in Moreno Valley, Calif. He was 22 years old. Read more
