Road to Recovery: Where do we go from here?
As we work towards rebuilding SMEs recovering from the recent looting spree and even COVID19 lockdown, we will be hosting Teju Abisoye @tabisoye on our AGS Lightbox session to educate us on the way forward for small businesses. Teju Abisoye is the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, a Lagos State Government agency established to create jobs and tackle unemployment by providing skills development and entrepreneurship opportunities for Lagos residents. Teju is a trained lawyer with over 14 years’ experience in the socio-economic development space. She has an LLM in International Trade and Investment Law from the University of Pretoria and an LLB from the University of Ibadan. She is also an Alumna of Yale’s Women Leadership Programme. Zainab Ahmed: Nigeria’s debt may jump by N6trn in 2021 — to hit N38trn
Speaking when she appeared before the senate committee on local and foreign debts on Tuesday, Ahmed estimated that both external and domestic debt would rise to N32.51 trillion by December 2020. According to the Debt Management Office, the total public debt stock, which comprises the debt stock of the three tiers of government, stood at N31.009 trillion at the end of June 2020. Read more
DisCos resume implementation of new electricity tariff
The DisCos began implementation of a new service-based reflective tariff (SRT) structure nationwide on September 1 after receiving approval from President Muhammadu Buhari. However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) protested the new tariff and called for a nationwide strike. Read more

Mutual Funds are gaining wide acceptance in Nigeria’s investment climate, with savvy investors choosing the investment plan over savings, Head of Research at Coronation Asset Management, Guy Czartoryski, has said. Speaking during the launch of Coronation Research: ‘The Shifting Appetite of the Nigerian Investor: From Savings to Mutual Funds’ he said that mutual funds are the next big thing in Nigerian finance and our aim is to explain why. Fed Govt offers three-year bond at 2.76% per annum
The Federal Government of Nigeria is offering a coupon of 2.759 per cent as annual return to investors for a three-year bond and 1.759 per cent for a two-year bond under government’s monthly savings bond issuance programme. The coupons showed considerable decline in returns on fixed-income securities as government and corporate takes advantage of liquidity in the system to restructure into low-cost debts. Read more
