Okonjo-Iweala named Forbes Africa Person of The Year 2020
Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s first female minister of finance and the prime candidate for the office of the director-general of the World Trade Organisation, joins a list of eminent Africans to have received the award. In 2019, Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), won the award for his outstanding work at the bank and a sterling career in agriculture and finance. Read more
Dangote Cement market capitalization increased by 28% to cross N3 trillion mark in November
The market capitalization of Dangote Cement Plc increased from N2.73 trillion at the open of trade on the 2nd of November 2020, to N3.49 trillion at the close of trade on the 30th of November. Further checks revealed that the market capitalization of Dangote Cement Plc increased by 28.13% during the period under review. Read more
UK Government opens point-based immigration system
In a bid to attract “the brightest and the best from around the world,” the UK Government has announced that applications for skilled workers visas can commence. This was announced by the UK’s Secretary of State, Priti Patel, in a statement on Tuesday evening. Read more
NNPC to provide free conversion services to motorists to switch from PMS to autogas
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has disclosed that it is going to provide free conversion services in some selected NNPC retail filling station in the country. This is part of the effort of the corporation aimed at assisting interested motorists to switch from Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol to Autogas as the Federal Government rolls out an autogas programme called the National Gas Expansion Programme. COVID-19: Nigeria, 4 others contribute 77.6% of cumulative confirmed cases in Sub-Saharan Africa
The latest COVID-19 daily update report as of November 28th, 2020 shows that there are cumulative confirmed cases of 1,411,393 in Sub-Saharan Africa. Out of the growing number, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana top the list with a total of 1,095,410 confirmed cases, representing 77.6% whilst the other 41 member-countries of the sub-region contributed 22.4%. UK becomes first country to approve Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine
(CNN) Drugmaker Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech have been granted temporary authorization for emergency use of their Covid-19 vaccine in the UK, the companies announced. This marks the first time that citizens outside of the worldwide clinical trials will have the opportunity to be immunized against Covid-19, according to BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin. Read more

Nigeria Official Selection Committee (For the Academy Awards® IFF Submissions) has confirmed Desmond Ovbiagele's 'The Milkmaid' as Nigeria's official 2021 submission. The committee confirmed the film on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 while revealing it beat three other films in the final voting stage. Contending films include 'Ibi' (The Birth), 'Voiceless', 'Eyimofe', 'Sanitation Day' and the Mo Abudu produced 'Oloture' which is currently embroiled in a copyright infringement scandal. Read more
