200,000 former N-Power beneficiaries to become SANEF agents
The federal government has activated the exit strategy for beneficiaries of the N-Power initiative who have concluded the two-year job programme. Under the plan, 200,000 beneficiaries will be engaged as financial services operators under a Shared Agent Network Expansion Facility (SANEF) scheme operated by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Read more
Covid-19: Buhari approves N6.45 billion to set up 38 oxygen production plants
President Muhammadu Buhari has announced his approval of N6.45 billion for the set-up of 38 oxygen production plants across the country, in a bid to contain the second wave of Covid-19. The President disclosed this in a statement on Thursday evening after the first National Economic Council meeting of the year presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, with State Governors, Federal Capital Territory Minister, Central Bank Governor, and other senior government officials in attendance. Biden reverses US immigration ban on Nigeria, others
Newly-elected President, Joe Biden has signed his first executive orders as US President including reversing a Donald Trump-administration travel ban on 13 countries which were mainly Muslim and African nations. Biden’s executive orders, amongst other acts, also returns the US back to the Paris Climate agreement and stopping the construction of the border wall with Mexico. Read more
FG contracts N900m railway e-ticketing service to concessionaire
The Federal Government on Thursday officially inaugurated the e-ticketing service on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor and also announced that the service would be run by a concessionaire. Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who inaugurated the online ticketing service during a virtual event in Abuja, said the initiative was a public private partnership valued at N900m. Tax returns: LIRS issues January 31 deadline
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has urged all employers of labour in Lagos State to file their company annual tax returns on or before the statutory deadline of January 31, 2021. It said it was necessary to avoid penalties in line with the Personal Income Tax Act Cap P8 LFN 2011 (as amended). Read more
President Biden directs international air travelers must quarantine upon arrival
The United States President Joe Biden has issued an executive order on Thursday that makes it mandatory for international air travellers to quarantine upon arrival in the US. Similarly, the executive order also includes a directive that all interstate travellers in the US will be expected to wear a face mask. This travel order applies to airports and planes, trains, ferries, intercity buses and public transportation, but grants them the ability to issue exemptions. Read more
