NCC gives telcos 14 days to block SIM cards registered without NIN

The fresh directive is based on the outcome of a meeting of key stakeholders in the communications industry as convened by Isa Ali Pantami, the minister of communications and digital economy, on December 14, 2020. The key stakeholders concluded that operators should “require ALL their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records”. Read more

World Bank finally approves $1.5bn loan for Nigeria

In a statement on Tuesday, the Bretton Wood institution said the facility is a five-year country partnership framework (CPF) that will last from 2021 to 2024. The bank said the facility was prepared jointly with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). Read more

China approves loan for $2.6bn AKK gas pipeline

China has approved and will disburse its 85 per cent loan required to fund the $2.6bn Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline project, the Federal Government announced on Tuesday. Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, and Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, announced this during the inspection of the project in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. Emirates welcomes new aircraft

Emirates Airlines has welcomed a new aircraft, the Airbus A380 to its 2020 fleet. According to a statement by the airline emailed to our correspondent, the aircraft landed in Dubai on Saturday. The statement titled ‘Biofuel powered and emissions reduction A380s from Emirates’ explained that the A380 was powered by a blend of jet fuel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Read more

Arik Air workers get condition of service

After two protests within a four-month period, Arik Air workers are finally getting their wish lists as the issue of condition of service has been finally approved by the management of the airline. The airline had in a statement on December 4 relieved 300 employees of their appointments, citing the decision on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on its operations. Read more

Nigeria’s Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire last week said the country may be on the verge of a second wave of COVID-19 infections amid rising number of confirmed cases. Nigeria recorded over 3,800 fresh COVID-19 cases last week, the highest in over four months. The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was among the over 3,800 persons who tested positive last week while the Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has gone into isolation after some of his close relatives and government officials contracted the virus.
