Did you travel to the UK and urgently need some FX to fund your debit card? Sorry, you now have to return to Nigeria, buy the dollar, pay into your card and return to the UK to continue your shopping. According to an internal memo seen by TheCable, forex cash lodgements into domiciliary accounts can only be done by the account owners. The memo said the new guidelines are necessary to review the utilisation of inflows into customers domiciliary accounts. Read more
Shell to maintain Nigerian operations amid cost-cutting plans
This, according to Shell, would help increase savings and overhaul its business operations, while focusing more on renewable energy and power markets. The oil giant says it is exploring ways to reduce spending on oil and gas production, its largest division known as upstream, by 30 percent to 40 percent through cuts in operating costs and capital spending on new projects. CBN gives up on its policy of attracting dollars
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued a monetary policy communique explaining why it cut its monetary policy rate from 12.5% to 11.5%, the first drop since May 2020 when it slashed MPR from 13.5% t0 12.5%. The cut in rates means it is no longer targeting foreign investor inflow as a basis for keeping the exchange rate stable. Read more
FG moves to clamp down on illegal fertilizer manufacturers and agro-dealers
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has disclosed that anyone caught producing or merchandising adulterated fertilizers, under the new law, will be jailed. This disclosure was made via the Ministry’s official Twitter handle, to the general public, and seen by Nairametrics. Read more
NLC insists nationwide strike, protest to go ahead from September 28
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has insisted on going ahead with its earlier planned strike and protest, with effect from September 28, 2020, following the failure of the Federal Government to reverse the increases in electricity tariff and fuel price. According to a monitored media report, this disclosure was made by the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, after the National Executive Council meeting of the labour organization in Abuja. Read more
Smartphone to be used for daily tracking of first set to receive COVID-19 vaccine
The first set of Americans who get the doses of the first Covid-19 vaccines will be closely monitored by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through daily text messages and emails from their smartphones. This disclosure was made by a federal advisory group on immunization practices during a meeting. Read more

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, announced Tuesday morning in an Instagram post that the first Bezos Academy — a free preschool for children coming from low-income families — will launch in October in a town south of Seattle. “This classroom is just the beginning,” Bezos wrote, captioning a photo of a classroom bookshelf, lined with titles such as Pita & Ralph’s Rotten Day and My Papi Has A Motorcycle.
