MTN Nigeria, Dangote Cement hit three trillion market cap
MTNN’s market capitalisation stood at N3.25 trillion — the biggest company by market capitalisation, followed by Dangote Cement at N3.15 trillion, while GTBank also crossed the trillion naira market cap to end at N1.05 trillion. The nation’s bourse now has five companies with a trillion naira market capitalisation; MTNN, Dangote Cement, BUA Cement, Nestle Nigeria and GTBank. Read more
CBN to bear 50% credit risk of agric loans under new programme
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it will bear 50 percent of the credit risk of loans granted under the Private Sector-led Accelerated Agriculture Development Scheme (P-AADS) in the event that the participant defaults. In a circular published on Tuesday, the apex bank said the programme will complement the Accelerated Agriculture Development Scheme (AADS) that was earlier introduced to engage 370,000 youth in agriculture. Again, Alta Semper Capital attempts to take over HealthPlus head office
TheCable understands that Chidi Okoro, the chief transformation officer appointed by the firm, led some police officers to the head office on Tuesday. This contravenes a November 4 ruling by Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, a justice of the federal high court in Lagos. Oguntoyinbo had ordered all parties—HealthPlus Limited; HealthPlus Africa Holdings; Ayo Salami; Afsane Jetha; Zacharty Fond; Deji Akinyanju; including Bukky George, CEO of HealthPlus, to maintain status quo pending the determination of the motion before the court. Orange launches high speed internet network in Nigeria, Ghana, and 6 others
French telecoms giant, Orange, announced it has launched a high-speed fiber-optics network across West Africa. The network named Dioloba will pass through Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Liberia, and Mali, with the aim of delivering high-speed internet broadband in the region. This was disclosed in a report by Reuters on Wednesday evening. Read more
Open borders to more companies, senator tells Buhari
The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Tolu Odebiyi, has frowned on the special treatment accorded some firms to export items despite the current border closure. He asked the Federal Government to develop a comprehensive policy based on objective criteria to enable other deserving businesses to apply for similar waivers. Read more
Sanwo-Olu confirms Abisola Olusanya as new Agriculture commissioner
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has confirmed the appointment of Ms Abisola Olusanya as the substantive Commissioner for Agriculture in the state. According to a statement from the Lagos State Government, the confirmation of Olusanya’s appointment was contained in a circular issued by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola. Lafarge Africa Plc, Honeywell Flour Mills Nigeria Plc, Dangote Sinotrucks West Africa, and 34 other firms have been identified as companies currently enjoying Pioneer Status Incentive of the Federal Government. The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission in its third-quarter report on Pioneer Status Incentive applications made public on Wednesday stated that 60 applications for PSI had been abandoned.
