8,051 buy e-tickets for Abuja-Kaduna train service in three days
Three days into the test run, 8,051 passengers on Abuja-Kaduna train route reportedly accessed the e-ticketing platform of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC). Taiye Elebiyo-Edeni, media assistant to the minister of transportation, said in a statement on Sunday. The federal government on January 13 announced the commencement of the e-ticketing test run on Abuja-Kaduna train route. Read more
COVID-19: FG to disburse N10 billion for local vaccine production
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Finance, has announced the sum of N10billion for the production of vaccines in Nigeria, to fight the coronavirus. This was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, at the daily Covid-19 briefing by the Presidential Task Force on Monday in Abuja. Read more

The President, African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, and 10 African heads of state and government have been honoured for their leadership in the African Continental Free Trade Area process. CBN to release 300,000mt of maize in February
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), through its anchor borrowers’ programme is set to release about 300,000 metric tonnes of maize into the Nigerian market by February. In a statement released on Monday, the apex bank said this is expected to help reduce the prices of the product, increase demand and enhance the profits of maize farmers. Read more

Heineken extends Nigeria’s market share with new 1.9bn units of Champion Breweries
Heineken B.V., the Dutch brewer, has purchased another 1.9 billion ordinary shares of Champion Breweries located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. Heineken through its subsidiary, Raysun Nigeria Limited, purchased the new shares at N2.60 per unit at a total of N4.95 billion on January 7. With this share acquisition, Heineken now has a total of 84.7 percent in Champion Breweries, a move to further expand its control of the Nigerian Beer market and put it in a strong position as the majority shareholder to make a takeover attempt. US Capitol complex temporarily shut down
The US Capitol complex was shut down temporarily for about an hour on Monday as a precautionary measure after a small fire broke out nearby, highlighting the security concerns that are being raised days before the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. The security concerns and the lockdown follows the January 6 attack on the US Capital by supporters of the outgoing US President, Donald Trump, after his encouragement and inciting comments, calling the Presidential election a fraud without any proof of evidence.
