#EndSARS: FG expects increase in Covid-19 cases in the next 2 weeks
The Federal Government has warned that Nigerians should expect an increase in the number of coronavirus cases across the country in the next 2 weeks. This is due to the total disregard of the preventive measures against the virus during the ongoing nationwide #EndSARS protest which has been witnessing huge gatherings. Read more
Furera Jumare resigns from Union Bank Board following appointment by Jigawa State
Following her appointment as Director-General of the Jigawa State Investment Promotion Agency, Mrs. Furera Isma Jumare has resigned her role as Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. This in line with regulatory guidelines precluding certain categories of public servants from serving on boards of banks and other financial institutions. Read more
China’s economy bounces back from COVID-19 slump, with a growth of 4.9% in Q3 2020
The Chinese economy has continued to show stronger recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, as its economy saw growth of 4.9% between July and September – Q3 2020, compared to the same quarter last year. However, the figure is lower than the 5.2% projected by most international economists. China is now leading the charge for a global recovery based on its latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data. Exchange rate falls again at NAFEX window as #EndSARS protests escalates
Nigeria’s exchange rate at the NAFEX window depreciated against the dollar to close at N386/$1 during intraday trading on Monday, October 19. Also, the naira remained stable against the dollar, closing at N462/$1 at the parallel market on Monday, October 19, 2020, as the protest against the special anti-robbery unit (SARS) and police brutality by the Nigerian youth escalates with its impact on business activities across the country. Bank to commence BVN registration for 774,000 SPW jobs
Heritage Bank Plc has said it is set to commence the account opening with Bank Verification Numbers for the earmarked 774,000 participants of the Special Public Works programme in their branches throughout the 774 Local Government Areas. The bank said this in a statement on Monday titled ‘Heritage Bank to engage 774, 000 jobs Special Public Works programme November 1’. Read more
Airtel suffers service disruption, compensates customers
On Monday, social media was agog with information that Airtel was sharing free N1,000 airtime to its subscribers. While many of the subscribers did not know the reason for the rare gesture by the network provider, they claimed it was a cyberattack by ‘Anonymous’ hackers. Others claimed that the free airtime was a giveaway to support the ongoing #EndSARS campaign in the country. Read more

American rapper Cardi B has deleted her Twitter page days after announcing via the social media platform that she was getting back with estranged husband, Offset. During an Instagram Live session on Saturday, October 17, 2020, the rapper said she deleted her account after getting tired of tweets from fans who were criticising her and harassing Offset after they reconciled.
