FG adds Emirates to list of banned airlines
Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation, disclosed this via a post on his Twitter handle on Friday. The ban will take effect on September 21, 2020. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had, in a memo earlier in September, included Emirates in the list of approved airlines for international flights for both Abuja and Lagos airports. COVID-19: Transcorp Hotels to reduce workforce by 40%
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Dupe Olusola, the managing director, said the hotel is looking to restructure its business strategy and optimise operations. She said all executives of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja have also taken a pay cut as part of cost-saving strategies. Read more
FAAC shares N682.06bn allocation for August — highest in five months
The three tiers of government met virtually for the monthly FAAC meeting. This is the highest allocation made since April when N780.9 billion was shared between the three tiers of government. According to Mahmud Isa-Dutse, permanent secretary at the federal ministry of finance, the federal government received N272.905 billion, state governments shared N197.648 billion while the 774 local government councils jointly shared N147.422 billion. Facebook to open Lagos office in 2021
Social Media giant, Facebook announced it would open an office in Lagos in 2021, its second office in the continent and the first in Africa to house software engineers. This was announced by Facebook Program Manager, Chimdindu Aneke on social media. “We are opening a Facebook office in Lagos, Nigeria later in 2021,” he said. Read more
US government to ban WeChat and TikTok from app stores
The United States government says it will ban the services of Chinese tech giants, WeChat and TikTok, from online mobile application stores in the U.S. It also plans to prohibit any funds transfer/payment services through the WeChat mobile application. This was announced by the U.S Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross, in a statement on Friday, following President Donald Trump’s Executive Orders (E.O.) 13942 and E.O. 13943, on the 6th of August. FG apologizes, says Self-Certification directive is not for everyone
The Nigerian government has backtracked on its earlier issued guidelines on the new banking Self-Certification Forms, saying the notice does not apply to everyone. On Thursday, the Nigerian government ordered all persons holding accounts across financial institutions and insurance firms, to complete and submit self-certification forms to their respective financial institutions. DPR: We’ve advised FG to forgo $1.5bn World Bank loan — we have the money
In a statement on Friday, the agency said it has remitted $1.03 billion to the federal government with an additional $600 million underway from oil and gas royalties and legacy debts. The DPR said some of the revenue generated and remitted by the agency would save the country from additional and conditional borrowing from the World Bank adding that it has enjoined the government to delay and possibly ignore the loan. The drama between Dr Dre and his estranged wife, Nicole Young seems to be getting messier as she has filed a lawsuit against him. According to PageSix, Young is suing the Beats impresario in a California court, claiming that she co-owns the trademark to his name as well as his landmark album, “The Chronic.”
