Nigeria redeems its first-ever 10-year $500m Eurobond
In a recent statement on Wednesday, DMO said the federal government has already provided funds to repay the $500 million Eurobond. The 6.75 percent $500 million Eurobond, issued in January 2011, was Nigeria’s first foray into the international capital market. The federal government raised an additional $10.67 million from the international capital market making a total of $11.17 million to finance the implementation of the federal budgets. Read more
NCC renews Airtel’s spectrum licences for 10 years
In a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday, Airtel Nigeria said it paid N71.61 billion ($189 million) in respect of the license renewal fees, adding that the payment is under the terms of the spectrum licences. According to the telecom company, these spectrum licences were otherwise due to expire on November 30, 2021. Read more
DEAL: Total Nigeria Plc issues Commercial Paper worth N30 billion
Total Nigeria Plc has issued and quoted a N15 billion Series 1 and 2 Commercial Paper under its N30 Commercial Paper programme registered with FMDQ Securities Exchange Limited in December 2020. This is contained in a disclosure signed by the company’s Group Secretary, Bunmi Popoola-Mordi, and available on the website of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Read more

Nigerian fintech startup Cowrywise has raised $3m pre-series A funding. This funding round was led by Washington DC-based Quona Capital, with participation from Sahil Lavingia, Tsadik Foundation, and a syndicate of local and diaspora based Nigerian angels. Read more
MTN begins NIN enrollment in Lagos, Abuja, PH
MTN has said it has commenced enrollment for National Identification Number. MTN’s Senior Manager, External Relations, Funso Aina, told our correspondent that the telco had secured Nigerian Identity Management Commission licence for NIN enrollment and had begun enrollment at some of its centres in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja. He noted that MTN had invested in acquiring devices aligned with NIMC standard. Read more
Tolls may return, Owerri-Onitsha, 11 highways set for concession
The Federal Government will on Friday (today) receive the Outline Business Case Certificate of Compliance for 12 pilot federal highways billed for concession. The concession of the roads may also signify the return of toll gates as concessionaires will have to recoup their investments. It was learnt from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in Abuja that the 12 roads were under the ministry’s Highway Development Management Initiative. Read more

Jaiz Bank and National Hajj Commission have launched a Hajj savings scheme that will make it easier for Muslims in Nigeria to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. A statement titled ‘JAIZ, NAHCON launch Hajj savings scheme in Kwara, Oyo’, said the launch and sensitisation took place in Ilorin, Kwara State on Wednesday, and in Ibadan on Thursday, with many stakeholders in attendance. On January 28, 2021, Hollywood Icon Cicely Tyson died at the age of 96. This comes a few years after the woman known for portraying iconic black characters retired from the movie industry. In her career, she was the recipient of three Primetime Emmy Awards, four Black Reel Awards, one Screen Actors Guild Award, one Tony Award, an honorary Academy Award, and a Peabody Award. Read more

Nigeria's Oscar submission has scaled through one stage of the International Feature Film category selection. 'The Milkmaid' was recently listed in the Oscars 'Eligibility for Consideration' list, a first-time achievement for Nigeria since we joined the Oscars' race in 2019. Read more
