Registration for FG’s MSME survival fund to open Monday
Mariam Katagum, minister of state for industry, trade and investment, said the programme is aimed at tackling the economic challenges faced by small businesses as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Katagum was speaking at the virtual commissioning of the fashion cluster shared facility for MSMEs tagged ‘Eko Fashion Hub’ in Lagos on Friday. Read more
WHO approves protocol for phase 3 clinical trials for COVID-19 herbal medicine
The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the African Union Commission for Social Affairs, has approved a protocol for phase 3 clinical trials of herbal medicine for Covid-19. Read more
President Trump approves Oracle, Walmart deal with TikTok
President Trump on Saturday night disclosed that he had approved in principle a deal in which major Oracle and Walmart would partner with TikTok in the U.S, thereby allowing the fast-growing social app to maintain operation in the world’s largest economy. Read more
TikTok’s owner seeks $60 billion valuation in US deal as Oracle, Walmart take stakes
TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance is seeking a valuation of $60 billion for its video-sharing app, as Oracle Corp and Walmart Inc take stakes in the technology firm’s US operations to address the security concerns of the Trump administration. According to a report from Bloomberg, Oracle and Walmart have rights to buy 12.5% and 7.5% respectively of a newly established TikTok Global under an agreement that has gotten the approval of President Donald Trump. Lagos allows cinemas, gyms, others to reopen
The Lagos State Government has announced the reopening of cinemas, gyms, and other recreational centres in the state. According to a monitored media report, the disclosure was made by the Lagos State Government, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a press briefing at the Statehouse, Marina on Saturday, September 19, 2020. Nestlé S.A. increases stake in Nigeria subsidiary to 66.3%
Nestlé S.A, Switzerland, the parent company of Nestlé Nigeria Plc, has increased its ownership percentage of the Nigerian subsidiary to 66.30 per cent. With the recent purchase of 229,697 additional units in the shares of the company, and previous purchases from August 20 till date, amounting to 977,744 units, Nestlé S. raised its majority shareholding in the Nigerian subsidiary. Foreign reserves rise by $140.9m, now $35.81bn
The country’s foreign reserves rose by $140.9m from $35.67bn as of September 1 to $35.81bn as of September 17, the latest figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria have shown. The reserves rose by $65m from $35.59bn as of August 20 to $35.66bn as of August 27. It had earlier lost $278.91m from $35.87bn on July 29 to $35.59bn on August 19 after which it returned to a growth path. Read more
