WTO: Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala gets European Union support
The European Union says it will support Nigeria’s Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the South Korean candidate Yoo Myung-hee for the role of Director-General of the World Trade Organization. This was disclosed by Bloomberg on Monday after a source at the EU revealed the candidates the Union would support, as the date to select a leader comes to a final chapter. Read more
President Buhari approves N10 billion for National Census
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the disbursement of N10 billion to the National Population Commission (NPC), for the continuation of the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) in the remaining 546 Local Government Area (LGA) of the country. Read more
Shoprite: Wendy Lucas-Bull appointed as Chairman designate
Shoprite Holdings has announced the appointment of Absa Group Chair, Wendy Lucas-Bull as an Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman designate of the company, with effect from 1 October 2020. This disclosure is in accordance with section 3.59(a) of the JSE Limited Listings Requirements, it was made public in a statement issued by the order of the Board of Directors of Shoprite Holding Company, which was seen by Nairametrics. Covid-19: CDC revises guidance, says virus can spread through airborne transmission
The United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), on Monday, revealed that COVID-19 can spread through virus lingering in the air, sometimes for hours, thereby reversing its earlier pronouncement and acknowledging concerns widely voiced by public health experts about the airborne transmission of the virus. Commercial vehicles will start cars’ conversion to run on gas – Osinbajo
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says the plan by the Federal Government to convert cars of Nigerians to run on Compressed Natural Gas will start with commercial vehicles. He said the plan was already being experimented in Edo State where he said Dangote firm had converted all its trucks to run on gas. Read more
PIB lists functions of new agencies to replace NNPC
The Petroleum Industry Bill 2020 has listed the specific functions of the three agencies that would replace the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation when the proposed legislation is passed and assented to by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). A copy of the bill obtained by our correspondent on Monday named the three agencies to be created from the NNPC to include the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
