We are super proud of our AGS Tribe member @olusore who got a scholarship to study at the University of Hertfordshire. Sometime ago, we solicited that you vote for one of our tribe member on Facebook who is trying to get a scholarship and you did. And here we are with the good news of her getting the scholarship. In her words, she has been trying to go for her masters for a long time now but she couldn’t due to funds but this year, she is going, thanks to ALL OF YOU! Buhari allocates N509b for pension liabilities

President Muhammadu Buhari has appropriated a total of N501.19 billion to offset pension liabilities in the 2021 budget proposal. He made this known during his 2021 Budget Speech: Budget of Economic Recovery and Resilience at The Joint Session of the National Assembly, Abuja last Thursday. Read more

Naira gains N8 as equities make N778b

THE naira appreciated by N8 in the last one week at the parallel market and the equities market recorded major gains of N777.9 billion as oil prices picked up. The All Share Index (ASI) grew by N778 billion to N14.9 trillion at the close of business on Friday as investors saw opportunities in crude oil upbeat and new push to stabilise the global oil market. FG earns N13.65m from data protection fine, report filing

The Federal government has earned the sum of N13.65m from the data protection activities involving licensing, audit report filing and fine, according to the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation Performance report. As contained in the report published by the National Information Technology Development Agency on Friday, Data Protection Compliance Organisations paid a total of N12.65m into the coffers of the government for licensing and filing of audit reports. Retirement age increase worsens youth unemployment –ABCON

The Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria has cautioned the government against increasing the retirement age. ABCON stated that this would work against policies to reduce youth unemployment in the country. The association stated this in its quarterly economic review report for the third quarter of 2020. It advised that the Federal Government should prepare post-retirement facilities instead of increasing retirement age. Read more

Union Bank gets $40m IFC facility to boost trade finance in Nigeria 

In a statement on Friday, the bank said the facility was approved under the IFC’s global trade finance program (GTFP) and would help to enable increased international trade for Nigeria and help protect the country’s economy from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more

World Bank: Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa to fall by 3.3% in 2020

The World Bank has said growth in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries may shrink by 3.3 percent in 2020, on the back of  economic fallout caused by the COVID-19 pandemic–pushing the region into its first recession in 25 years. Albert Zeufack, World Bank’s chief economist for Africa regions, said this at the launch of the latest Africa Pulse report, SSA bi-annual macroeconomic analysis.
