Arik Air seeks ministers’ intervention over strike threat by employees
This development is coming two months after the federal government reopened domestic flights operation, and a week after international flights resumed. In a letter dated September 11, Roy Ilegbodo, chief executive officer of Arik Air Limited, said the minister’s intervention is needed to enhance understanding and cooperation among workers’ unions. Leaked letter by Poultry Farmers Association triggered CBN emergency approval to import maize
A letter from the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria is touted as the trigger for the recent decision by the Central Bank of Nigeria to approve emergency importation of 262,000 tons of maize into Nigeria. Nairametrics confirmed this, after sighting the letter signed by the President of Poultry Farmers Association, Onallo S. Akpa, dated July 3rd, 2020. Read more
Pfizer, BioNTech to expand phase 3 trials of COVID-19 vaccine to 44,000 volunteers
Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE, on Saturday, made a proposal to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to expand the Phase 3 trials of their COVID-19 to about 44,000 participants, while making efforts to increase the diversity of the trial population. The pharmaceutical giants, hope to get to the initial target figure of 30,000 participants for the vaccine trial by next week. Read more
Lagos announces e-processing of building planning permit, approval to take 1 month
The Lagos State Government revealed it has created an e-planning permit platform, to ease the process of obtaining a planning permit, and improve service delivery. This comes on the heels of the state’s commitment to enforce its physical planning laws to the letter, by ensuring that all physical structures conform to planning regulations. Read more
Top 10 exporters earned $74.78m in one month
Top 10 exporters earned $74.78m from export proceeds in May despite lockdown introduced by the Federal Government to contain the COVID-19 pandemic spread according to the Central bank of Nigeria. The CBN stated this in its monthly economic report for the month of May. It said, “Despite the lockdown measures, export proceeds of the top 10 exporters increased by 29.8 per cent to $74.78m from $57.62bn.” Read more
Equity market closes week negative with 0.05% loss
Equity trading on the local bourse finished last week on the downside as the NSE All-Share Index and market capitalisation depreciated by 0.05 per cent to close the week at 25,591.95 and N13.35tn respectively. All other indices finished lower with the exception of NSE Premium, NSE Lotus II, and NSE Industrial Goods, which appreciated by 0.53 per cent, 0.14 per cent and 0.35 per cent respectively while NSE ASeM Index closed flat.
