Covid-19: New UK variant also confirmed in Singapore
The Singaporean government has announced its first case of the new Covid-19 variant similar to that recently announced by the UK. Singapore said that it placed 11 in quarantine and tests returned positive for the new strain, in a report cited by Reuters. Read more
Alibaba in hot water on China’s regulators probe over Ant Group
The world’s second-largest economy, China, has recently launched an antitrust investigation into Asia’s leading e-commerce company, Alibaba, listed on the biggest stock market in the world. In a report credited to Reuters, the e-Commerce juggernaut seems to be in hot water over its affiliate company, better known as Ant Group, as Chinese antitrust regulators plan to review if it was in anyway monopolistic. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has projected that most Nigerians will distance themselves from expensive and luxury items within the next 12 months. This is contained in the ‘Consumer Expectations Survey for Q4 2020’ report released by the CBN’s statistics department. Read more
NIPC: Kogi beats Lagos to become top investment destination for Q3 2020
The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) says investment in Nigeria rose to $3.95 billion in the third quarter of 2020 (Q3 2020), as Kogi state emerged top destination of investment in the country with $1 billion (25 percent). This was contained in NIPC’s “report of investment announcements in Nigeria (July – September 2020)” by its department of strategic communications. Read more
NIN: Telecom operators get NIMC enrolment licences
Mobile network operators (MNOs) on Wednesday said they have enrollment and verification licences from the Federal Government. The development followed the stampede that was witnessed at the registration centres of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) across the country earlier this week. Read more

THE Debt Management Office (DMO) said the N60 billion bond it offered for December had been oversubscribed by more than N70 billion. This was contained in a statement obtained from DMO’s website yesterday. Read more
CBN directs banks to close naira remittances ledgers
THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has mandated Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) to close all ‘Naira General Ledgers’ used by the lenders to remit naira to Diaspora remittances beneficiaries. CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele who gave the directive to DMBs in his remarks titled: “Improving Remittance Inflows into Nigeria” said the Naira General Ledgers were channels through which the naira remittances were hitherto carried out.
