British Airways, Virgin, Turkish Airlines now to operate daily flights to Nigeria
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that British Airways, Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Africa World Airlines (AWA) have received approval to operate daily flights from the Lagos and Abuja international airports. Read more
Nigerian scientists announce development of cheaper, faster COVID-19 test kits
Nigerian Scientists have developed cheaper and faster Covid-19 test kits as part of the strategy to hasten the treatment and containment of the coronavirus disease across the country. This is expected to enable testing to be ramped up in a place that has faced kit shortages and chronic under-testing of a massive population, according to the country’s health authorities. Read more
Cheque books to get new digit, expiry dates
With effect from January 1, 2021, banks will introduce a new digit on the Magnetic Ink Character Recognition code line and expiry dates to new cheque books. First Bank of Nigeria Limited disclosed this in a mail to its customers titled, ‘New features on cheque books’. Read more
Banks shouldn’t lend to states without our approval – FRC
The Fiscal Responsibility Commission said on Sunday that no Deposit Money Bank should lend money to any state without the approval of the commission. The FRC said this was in line with the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, adding that going forward, state governments should publish their budgets online annually. Read more
Travellers must bear full costs of COVID-19 tests – PTF
The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, has said the country cannot afford to conduct free COVID-19 tests for passengers arriving into Nigeria. Aliyu, who made this statement on Saturday during a webinar organised by the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, explained that the country would run out of test kits if it chooses to test the 5,000 to 7,000 persons who come into the country daily. Oyo partners foreign firm to capture marble deposit data
The Oyo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Hong Kong-based firm, HSIT, on data capturing of the marble deposit at Igbeti, in the Olorunsogo Local Government Area of the state. The Chairman of Oyo State Minerals Development Agency, Mr Abiodun Oni, signed the MoU on behalf of the state while the Managing Director of HSIT, Mustapha Alfarra, signed for the company. Read more
Platinum bank appoints Abubakar, ex-IGP, as board chairman
In a statement on Saturday, Festus Adebayo, the bank’s media adviser, said Abubakar has now been saddled with the responsibility of ensuring improved performance of all members of the board. Nigerian singer, Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid has called out President Muhammadu Buhari for responding quickly to Donald Trump’s health issues and for remaining unconcerned about security issues in Nigeria. Recall that a team of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police allegedly killed a young man on Saturday. The incident occurred in front of Wetland Hotel, Ughelli in Delta State.
