Trump impeached the second time by US congress as 10 Republicans vote against him
Donald Trump, on Wednesday, became the first President in US history to be impeached twice, when the House of Representatives voted to charge him with inciting an insurrection in last week’s violent attack on the Capitol. Unlike the impeachment in December 2019, the ranks of the Republicans were broken with 10 of the President’s party members joining the Democrats to get him impeached. Read more
COVID-19: Africa secures about 300 million vaccine doses
The African Union (AU) has secured about 300 million COVID-19 vaccine doses – the largest of such agreements in the continent. A senior science adviser for the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Nicaise Ndembi, told The Associated Press that the current AU chair and South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected to announce the news today. NIN deadline stands, as NCC awaits govt’s advice
The Nigerian Communications Commission on Wednesday said it was awaiting the advice of the Federal Government as regards the deadline for the integration of Subscriber Identification Modules with valid National Identity Numbers. It also stated that the earlier announced deadlines were still in force despite the clamour for extension or outright suspension of the registration process. Read more
Stanbic IBTC Plc ceases Bureau de Change business operations
Stanbic IBTC Bureau De Change Limited (SIBDC), a subsidiary of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, announced that it has relinquished its operating license in conducting its Bureau de Change operations with effect from January 1, 2021. This is according to a disclosure signed by the bank’s Secretary, Chidi Okezie, and sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange market, as seen by Nairametrics. Read more

The Minister of Finance Dr. Zainab Ahmed revealed there are plans between her ministry and the central bank to convert loans from the apex bank into tradeable securities. Sokoto tops list as FG disburses N123bn World Bank fiscal transparency grant to states
The federal government has disbursed N123.34 billion performance-based grant to eligible states under the World Bank supported states fiscal transparency, accountability and sustainability (SFTAS) programme for results. Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, budget and national planning, said Sokoto state received the highest amount of N6.612 billion while Kano state got the lowest amount of N1.710 billion. Read more
NRC testing Abuja-Kaduna rail e-ticketing platform — to launch next week
In a tweet on Wednesday, Amaechi said the ticketing platform will be launched fully next week. A senior staff of the corporation who also spoke to TheCable on the condition of anonymity said intended passengers still need to purchase tickets at the counter until the launch. Read more
