‘No more 35%’ — FG to slash levy on imported cars to 5%
This is contained in the draft bill of the 2020 finance bill to be presented to the national assembly. The bill becomes law after it is passed by the legislature and assented by President Muhammadu Buhari. Details of the bill shared by the presidency also show that the import duty of tractors and motor vehicles for the transportation of goods has been slashed from 35 percent to 10 percent. Read more

If the world were to play a game, and the convener of the game says “raise up your hand if your country has been in a recession in 2020,” more than half of the hands in the world will be up. The other half with their hands down will be led by China — a country with nearly 20 percent of the world’s population. Of the top 10 most populous countries, only Bangladesh and China are likely to avoid a recession in 2020. Read more
Bank customers to now pay for failed direct debit transactions
According to the Guide to Charges by Banks, other financial and non-financial institutions published by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the charge will only apply to transactions that fail due to the account being unfunded. Customers will be required to pay either one percent of the amount or N5,000 (whichever is higher) as the penal charge. Read more

NNPC to declare dividend in 2020 despite Covid-19 pandemic
The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has said that he is hopeful that the corporation will declare dividends in 2020, despite the challenges posed by the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. According to a statement from NNPC’s Twitter handle, this was disclosed by Kyari while speaking at an interactive session with the National Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC), in Abuja on Friday. G-20 nations announced a pledge to pay for vaccine distribution to developing nations that can’t afford it. Trump International Hotel sale stalled
The spirited efforts made by the Trump Organization to dispose of its Trump International Hotel in Washington DC was truncated, as the sale has been put on hold indefinitely. This is even as the organization had already engaged Mr. Jones Lang LaSalle to look for buyers.
