Kogi introduces levy on every loaf of bread
The state ministry of commerce and industry said the levy is aimed at improving the internally generated revenue. But the state chapter of the Association of Master bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) told TheCable on Thursday that the bakers are against the levy. An executive member of the association simply identified as Godfirst said the association has begun moves to meet with the consultant the state charged with collecting the fee. Read more
GAC Motor partners banks, insurance company to launch car credit scheme
The partnering companies are Wema Bank, Access Bank, Ecobank Transnational Plc, Globus Bank, and Sunu Assurance. The automaker said the scheme will give Nigerians the opportunity to own cars with ease by accessing an auto facility with these institutions. Read more
FG to reopen Kano and Port Harcourt airports for international flights
The Nigerian government announced the reopening of the Kano and Port Harcourt airports for international flights. This comes 3 months after Lagos and Abuja airports were reopened for operations. This was disclosed by Musa Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), during the daily Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing in Abuja on Thursday. The Director-General of the Budget Office, Mr. Ben Akabueze, has denied he ever said Nigeria was broke to pay salaries and assured Nigerians that the 2021 budget will be passed before the end of the year. He made the clarification during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday. Read more
COVID-19: Gates Foundation donates additional $70 million for affordable vaccines
In a bid to develop and deliver affordable vaccines that will be supplied to everyone globally including residents of low and middle-income countries, the Bill and Gates foundation has further pledged an additional sum of $70 million to achieve the objective. According to Forbes, the latest pledge is sequel to more than $350 million pledges made earlier this year by the foundation to fund development of COVID-19 diagnostics, treatment and vaccines. COVID-19: FG orders air passengers to pay for repeat PCR tests
The Federal Government has asked potential passengers that will be coming into the country to pay extra for Polymerise Chain Reaction (PCR) tests from a certified private lab listed on the travel portal. FreeME Digital CEO, Michael Ugwu acquitted by Ibadan court after 7-year legal battle with iROKO Partners
On November 13, 2020, the CEO of FreeMe Digital, Michael Ugwu took to his Instagram page to announce that he had been acquitted of all charges brought against him by iROKO Partners - led by co-founder and CEO, Jason Njoku. Ugwu was CEO of the now defunct streaming platform, iROKING between August 2012 and October 2013 when he exited his role. Since then, Ugwu and his former employers have been embroiled in a seven-year legal battle. Read more
