FEC approves N653.8m to monitor frequency spectrum in south-east
Addressing journalists at the end of the federal executive council meeting on Wednesday, Isa Pantami (pictured), the minister of communications and digital economy, said the approval followed the presentation of an investigative report by the ministry to the council on the use of illegal frequencies. Pantami said the ministry discovered that 106 out of the 320 frequencies being operated across the country were illegal. Read more
Senate probes commercial banks over illicit, excess charges
The Senate on Wednesday mandated its Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions to investigate the alleged illicit and excess bank charges by commercial banks operating in the country. The upper chamber urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to look into the complaints of Nigerians in that regard with a view to reviewing downward all charges on their bank accounts. Read more
The new kits for 5 African countries designed by Puma cost $90 each
Puma has released new jerseys for the national teams of five African countries. These countries are Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire. Egypt, Morocco, and Senegal. The German kit manufacturer unveiled the kits on Monday. The new jerseys will serve the national teams for all international assignments during the period 2020/2021. Read more
YouTube Premium subscribers get a new perk with launch of testing program
YouTube has long allowed its users to test new features and products before they go live to a wider audience. But in a recent change, YouTube’s latest series of experiments are being limited to those who subscribe to the Premium tier of YouTube’s service. Currently, paid subscribers are the only ones able to test several new product features, including one that allows iOS users to watch YouTube videos directly on the home screen. Read more
Emirates resumes Nigerian flights, UAE begins visa issuance
The United Arab Emirates has confirmed that it would begin the issuance of visas to Nigerians from Thursday (today), the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced on Wednesday. Sirika had announced on September 30 that the UAE had written to state that it agreed to issue visas to Nigerians, a development that made the Federal Government lift the ban it had earlier placed on Emirates Airlines. BREAKING WTO: Okonjo-Iweala advances to final stage
Former Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has advanced to the final round in the race to lead the World Trade Organization. Members of the Geneva-based trade body also selected South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee. The final two were selected from a list of five candidates. Read more

Nigerian rapper Olawale Hassan sentenced to jail for rape in the UK
Nigerian rapper, Olawale Hassan also known as Goldie 1 has been sentenced to jail in the United Kingdom for raping a woman. According to BirminghamMail, made advances to the woman at a venue in Southend in February 2017. Read more
