FCMB shares down six percent on first trading day of 2021
Shares belonging to First City Monument Bank (FCMB) posted losses in the early hours of trading on Monday, the first trading day of 2021. Data made available on the Nigerian Stock Exchange website showed that the bank’s shares lost 0.20k from the N3.33k it closed at on Thursday, December 31. This represents a loss of 6.01 percent. Short-stay apartments record boom, amid COVID-19 second wave fears
2020 has been a devastating year for the Nigerian economy, especially the hospitality industry, with hundreds of people laid-off and salaries of some workers slashed. Interestingly, as the big-wigs in the industry continue to grapple with the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their patronage, smaller boutique hotels (short stay apartments) are witnessing a boom during the Yuletide season. The Board of Directors of Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, has proposed a total final dividend of N875.59 million to be distributed to the shareholders of the company, as final dividend for the period ended 30th September 2020. England Will Go Into National Lockdown Amid Covid-19 Surge
In a bid to contain a more contagious strain of coronavirus that is spreading rapidly, Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposed a new lockdown on England on Monday that will last until at least mid-February. “There’s no doubt in that fighting the old variant to the virus, our collective efforts were working and would have continued to work. But we now have a new variant, and it’s been both frustrating and alarming to see the speed with which the new variant is spreading,” Johnson said. Read more
OPEC cites vaccine as most important factor for oil in 2021 as Nigeria pushes for cuts
HRH Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy and Chairman of the OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting, cited the discovery and administration of Covid-19 vaccine as the most important factor for oil in 2021. He made this remark on Monday, January 4th, 2021, at the 13th OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial which is taking place via videoconference. Read more
FG wants more SME participation in N75bn stimulus programme
The Federal Government wants more micro, small and medium enterprises to participate in its N75bn economic recovery and stimulus programme in order to grow their respective businesses. Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, on Monday urged MSMEs to take advantage of the programme, which he said was geared at cushioning the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on small businesses nationwide. On January 4, 2021, the appointment of Chin Okeke as the new General Manager of the Nigerian arm of Universal Music Group, the world's largest record company was announced by the company. The news has been bubbling in the Nigerian music industry over the past 10 months.
