Billionaires list: Dangote loses $900m in 24 hours
The President/Chief Executive, Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, saw his total net worth drop by $900m on Friday as his flagship company emerged the biggest loser at the end of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which is a ranking of the world’s 500 richest people, showed that his wealth fell from $18.4bn on Thursday to $17.5bn on Friday, making him the 114th wealthiest man in the world, down from 106th the previous day. Oil nears $56, FG may reintroduce fuel subsidy
The sustained increase in global crude oil prices has pushed up the landing cost of imported petrol closer to the current pump prices of the product in Nigeria, and appears to have triggered a return to petrol subsidy era, ’FEMI ASU reports. Since November 13, 2020 when the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) were last increased in the country, the price of the international oil benchmark, Brent crude, has been on an upward trajectory, rising from $41.51 per barrel to close at $51.22 per barrel on December 31. US. House of Reps will vote to impeach Trump – Pelosi
U.S House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, has said that the House will move to impeach President Trump, adding that they will only be stopped if Vice President Mike Pence initiates the 25th amendment to remove Trump from his role as President. This was disclosed by the Speaker on Sunday, and reported by Bloomberg. Read more
Stripe reportedly joins the tech platforms booting President Trump from their services
It might be easier at this point to ask which tech platforms President Donald Trump can still use. Payment-processing company Stripe is the latest tech company to kick Donald Trump off of its platform, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. That means the president’s campaign website and online fundraising arms will no longer have access to the payment processor’s services, cutting off the Trump campaign from receiving donations. Covid-19: Africa records over 3 million cases
Africa’s recorded coronavirus cases surpassed 3 million on Sunday, including over 72,000 casualties from the pandemic. This was disclosed by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in a Bloomberg report on Sunday evening. South Africa remains the leading nation in Africa, accounting for the highest number of cases at over 1.2 million and also the highest number of reported deaths at over 32,800 as at Sunday, January 10, 2021 – 30% of all cases in the continent. It’s unsafe to reopen varsities now, COVID-19 guidelines absent – ASUU
Branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities on Sunday assessed COVID-19 protocols in the universities and said the institutions were not ready for safe reopening. The chapters of the union, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, commented on the directive of the National Universities Commission that universities could resume on January 18, but must adhere to COVID-19 protocols in hostels and lecture halls. Human remains, plane wreckage of Indonesian Sriwijaya Air found at crash site
Human body parts and parts of the wreckage have been found at the crash site of the Sriwijaya Air flight 182 which was reported missing on January 9, 2021. The Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737 was carrying 62 people when it vanished from radar on its journey to Pontianak, crashing 10,000 feet into the ocean. Read more

Nigerian actor Jim Lawson Maduike is dead. The movie star died on Saturday, January 9, 2021, after complaining of body pains.
