N500m limit, 100% imported solar systems prohibited… Terms of CBN’s solar intervention fund
In a document released on Monday titled ‘Framework for implementation of the solar connection facility’, the apex bank said the fund has a target of completing five million new connections thereby expanding energy access to 25 million individuals. “To support the economic recovery in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has launched an initiative as part of the economic sustainability plan (ESP) to achieve the roll-out of five million new solar-based connections in communities that are not grid-connected,” the document read. Arik Air apologises to passengers over flights disruption
Adebanji Ola, Arik Air manager of communications, apologised in a statement on Monday. The airline’s operations were disrupted by aviation unions over alleged non-payment of staff salaries since April, after placing 90 percent of the workforce on compulsory leave and other anti-labour practices. Fidson, May & Baker see biggest half-year profits in five years — amidst pandemic
This can be explained: the demand for prescription drugs and other medical interventions surged on heightened health-consciousness amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Analysis by TheCable shows that total revenue by three companies jumped 14 percent, while profits ballooned 96 percent in the first six months of the year. Read more
Babcock confirms N25,000 COVID-19 test fee
BABCOCK University Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has confirmed that it asked each student resuming for the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic session to pay N25,000 for a COVID-19 test. The university explained that it could not afford to toy with lives of its staff and students on the school premises. Read more
IATA asks Canada to reopen borders
The International Air Transport Association has urged the Canadian government to safely reopen Canada to international and domestic travel without the need for blanket quarantine measures. In a statement by the global body which represents 290 airlines, it asked Canada to support the COVID-19 testing initiatives of Air Canada and Westjet as international traffic to the North American nation had reduced since March. CBN to increase loans to agricultural sector to 10% of total bank credit
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revealed that the country needs to increase its level of bank credit to the agricultural sector by over 50% within the next 4 years to boost food production. The implementation of this is expected to drive the allocation to the sector to 10% of the entire credit in the banking sector from the current 4%. Read more
CBN allows banks to pay winnings, salaries for 7 banned betting & gaming companies
The Central Bank of Nigeria has given some commercial banks instructions to allow betting and gaming companies suspended earlier in the month the approval to honour withdrawals from their accounts to pay for winnings, salaries and other overhead expenses. Heineken buys 3.3million additional units of Nigerian Breweries shares
Heineken Brouwerijen B.V, the major shareholder of the largest brewer in Nigeria, has purchased 3.3million units of additional Nigerian Breweries shares. This was disclosed by the company in a notification sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, which was seen by Nairametrics. According to the notification, which was signed by the Company’s Secretary, Uaboi G. Agbebaku, the purchase was made on the bourse over three transactions on the 8th, 9th and 11th of September. Chevron Nigeria invests $1.45 billion in local content development
American oil exploration and production giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited, has disclosed that it invested $1.45 billion in Nigeria Content Development (NCD) in 2019. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), this disclosure was made in Chevron’s Corporate Responsibility Report for 2019. Read more

Award-winning actor Timini Egbuson has found himself caught up in an alleged cheating scandal after two girls got into a fight over the movie star. Egbuson was a trending item on Twitter Nigeria for more than 10 hours after his girlfriend Lydia and another girl Toju got into a fight on the social media platform. Read more
Breonna Taylor's Family Reaches $12 Million Settlement in Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Breonna Taylor's family continues to seek justice for their daughter. On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, the Taylor family and their attorneys announced that the city of Louisville, Kent. agreed to pay $12 million to settle the family's wrongful death lawsuit. Additionally, Louisville officials agreed to institute a series of police reforms. Read more
